Our History

The UC-METC Marinos Alumni Association is the official organization representing all alumni of the University of Cebu – Maritime Education and Training Center. The association was born out of a vision to create a network of mariners who are not only leaders in their fields but also committed to being men and women for the sea and society.

Tracing its origins to the early celebrations of the university's anniversaries, the association was informally active for many years, aiding in alumni gatherings and university events. It was formally incorporated as a non-stock, non-profit organization in 1988, under the leadership of founding members who were visionaries in maritime education and industry.

Since its incorporation, the Marinos Alumni Association has established a permanent presence on the university campus. This strategic move has enabled the association to better coordinate its operations and more effectively represent its members' interests to the university. As a central figure in alumni affairs, the association plays a crucial role in both nurturing its members' professional growth and contributing to the university's development.

In early 2020, the world was hit by the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, which posed significant challenges to communities and organizations worldwide. The UC-METC Marinos Alumni Association faced its toughest test during this period. As the pandemic disrupted normal operations and strained financial resources, Atty. Agusto Go instructed the dissolution of the alumni association to prioritize the safety and well-being of its members. This period marked a critical phase where the association stood on the brink of dissolution.

Despite these challenges, the spirit of "Uniti, Per Mare Per Terram" remained unbroken. In partnership with Stella Maris, the UC-METC Marinos Alumni Association spearheaded initiatives to support hundreds of seafarers stranded in Manila and Cebu. Through these efforts, the association provided essential cash assistance to those most affected by the pandemic, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of its members and the maritime community at large.

Today, the association is governed by a board of trustees comprised of esteemed alumni across various generations. Board members are elected by alumni representatives from different graduating classes, ensuring a diverse and dynamic leadership that reflects the breadth of our alumni's experiences and contributions.
