Sailing Through Crisis: The #TabangUCMarino Lifeline for Stranded Seafarers

March - July 2020

#TabangUCMarino was a donation drive initiative by UMMAA to provide support to seafarers, including their families, whose deployment were postponed due to the imposed travel ban and were forced to stay in Manila longer than expected amid the lockdown, thus depleting their savings. With no income during the entire lockdown period, supporting themselves as well as their families were a great challenge for the stranded seafarers. Through #TabangUCMarino, they were provided with financial aid to purchase enough goods, vitamins, and other essentials, helping them survive the difficult time.

In partnership with the ITF Seafarers Trust and AOS Stella Maris Seaman’s Center Cebu, over 100 seafarers and their families were provided with cash assistance in the 2nd round of #TabangUCMarino UMMAA Foundation which was initiated for stranded seafarers in Manila amid travel restrictions and economic difficulties due to COVID-19.
